One North East LondonHistoryThere has been a service for problem drinkers on this site for 18 years. From 1987 - 1990 Accept (a London wide service funded by central government) ran a programme for problem drinkers who wanted to abstain from alcohol. When the funding was withdrawn by central government, a service was funded by local government. For a year it was called BRAT (Beulah Road Alcohol Treatment) after which we became WACS (Waltham Forest Alcohol Counselling Service) for eleven years. In 2002 our name was changed again to Number One North East London (1NE) to reflect the different sources of funding we receive as well as the fact that the relatives service also caters for friends and families of people with alcohol/drug problems. The programme of primary care continues to be based on the treatment designed by Accept. This is a full time day programme consisting of group therapy based on abstinence. Clients with drink problems are required to attend full time for two weeks as an initial assessment period, after which they are reassessed and encouraged to remain on the full time programme for a further six weeks. The majority of clients continue attending for another 4 weeks and then begin to cut down the days they come to the Centre. The majority of relatives/friends of problem drinkers/drug addicts are counselled in individual sessions although there are three groups held at different times of the week. Opening Times
